Penguin Place is a private conservation reserve dedicated to helping the endangered Yellow Eyed Penguin. Guided tours fund 100% of the project including habitat restoration, predator control, monitoring, research and a large rehabilitation facility.
Offering visitors the opportunity to visit a working conservation project, to view natural penguin behaviour at close range through a unique system of trenches and viewing hides.
The 90 minute tour begins with an insightful introduction from your tour guide followed by a 5 minute bus ride to reach the reserve. You are then guided on foot through a system of trenches and viewing hides to see wild Yellow Eyed Penguins. The coastal environment at Penguin Place is also home to fur seals, blue penguins and many other coastal species. Your guide will point out interesting aspects of the reserve and conservation project throughout the tour.
